A one day event to celebrate marriage between a two people. This has traditionally been a man and woman, though this has now changed to include civil partnerships or same sex weddings. Weddings can be held either in a church or a registry office and are a celebration of the state of marriage.
A wedding is then followed by the reception which is held in a variety of venues such as a room in a local pub, village hall or sports club, through to large scale function rooms in hotels and conference venues. At a wedding the couple will have invited family and friends in help them celebrate this event which will involve food, drink and entertainment. Photographs are taken of the couple, usually by a professional photographer hired for the occasion. Plus, many couples are opting to have the event recorded onto video and so will have booked a video production company for that very purpose.
After the reception, the couple will leave for their honeymoon, which is usually in an exotic location.
A wedding involves a lot of planning and preparation and can be a rather costly affair. Costs include flowers, hiring wedding outfits such as morning dress for the groom, best man and ushers, hiring a photographer, booking the venue for the reception, catering and entertainment.
It was considered traditional for the couple to have a white wedding which signified purity on the part of the bride. However, this is no longer the norm with many couples opting for themed weddings or to travel abroad for the ceremony.
